How to Store Your Wigs Properly

Taking good care of your wigs doesn’t stop after washing—it also matters how you store it. Proper storage keeps your wigs looking fresh, tangle-free, and ready to wear at a moment’s notice. The easiest and best way to store your wig is to simply fold it inside out and keep it in the clear bag it came in. (Do not take all the air out of the bag) This protects your wig from dust, keeps it clean, and saves space. Just make sure to store the bag in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.

[Dani & Ro Tip] Always be sure your wig is completely dry before putting it back in the bag. Storing a damp wig can damage the fibers and cap.  Also, if your wig has a scent of perspiration, smoke or perfume, be sure to air it out before putting it away.

Other Ways to Store Your Wig

Wig Stands

A wig stand is great for short-term use, especially if you wear your wig often. It allows air circulation, keeps the wig’s shape, and makes it easy to grab and go.

Wig Boxes (Shoe Box)

For longer-term storage, a wig box can protect your wig from dust and environmental damage. Many clients use the original shipping box for this.

Mannequin or Styrofoam Heads

These are ideal for styling or displaying wigs, but they take up more space.

Travel Storage

When traveling, fold your wig inside out, place it in the clear storage bag, and pack it carefully in your suitcase. A collapsible wig stand is helpful for keeping your wig fresh once you arrive.
