Wigs on Wings

Join Rochelle and Danielle in helping women receive wigs when they cannot afford one.

We are Rochelle and Danielle, the mother-daughter owners of Godiva's Secret Wigs and we'd like to share about the program we created in 2005 called "Wigs on Wings."

What is Wigs on Wings?
It's a program we created where we ask our clients to donate their gently loved wigs back to us.  We then wash and style these wigs and ship them directly to women in need, as well as to cancer centers and hospitals

Why did we create this program?
After working with countless women dealing with extreme hair loss, we learned that many times they are also in financial crisis and aren't able to afford the most important item they need during this time, a wig!

How can you help us?
If you have new or gently used wigs you are no longer wearing and aren't sure what to do with them, ship them to us so we can pass them along to women in need.

What items will we accept for Wigs on Wings:
  • Any donation item must be in new, like-new or very good condition, such that the recipient would be proud to wear and enjoy it.
  • We accept high-quality synthetic wigs from ALL BRANDS.
  • We also accept turbans, scarves, hats, bangs, shampoos and conditioners.
  • NO human hair, NO hair pieces, NO toppers.

Where to send your donations:
Godiva's Secret Wigs
Attn: Donations Dept.
5230 Las Virgenes Rd. #285
Calabasas, CA 91302

We will cover shipping costs, up to $10.
Be sure to include your printed name and the email address you've used when purchasing from us, so that we can put a $10 credit on your account.  If you're new to GSW, please include your name, email address and phone number so we can create an account for you.  We will put a $10 credit on your account once we receive your donations.  This is a $10 credit PER BOX, not PER WIG.

How do I apply for a donated wig through Wigs on Wings?
Simply CLICK HERE to download the form.  Once the form has been filled out, email it to Info@GodivasSecretWigs.com.  Sending in this form does not guarantee you a wig, however we will do the very best we can!

Thank you!  We appreciate your efforts in helping us to help other women around the world!  We invite you to share this program with all of your wig wearing friends and family!

xoxo

Below, you will find the stories of some of the women we have donated wigs to.

"My name is Norma. I am 30 years old, happily married with four young boys. Before I was diagnosed, I was a Hair Stylist/Make up artist since 2004. That was my passion.  However this year has been quite a challenge. In January 2016 I was diagnosed with stage 2 type A Breast Cancer.  Doctors explained that it was fast growing and I needed to get into surgery sooner than later. I made the choice to have a double mastectomy. I was booked and had surgery. I then was told that the cancer had moved over to my lymph nodes and I needed a second surgery.  After a long, painful, emotional 3.5 months, doctors decided I need Chemo. Once I started the Chemotherapy, my hair fell out within a week. By two weeks I was completely bald and devastated. I felt unattractive to my husband; I felt ugly. All I wanted to do was hide. I finally got some encouragement from family to try a wig or a hat. I went to a wig shop near my area. I was bummed. I knew there was NO way I could afford a beautiful wig. I hadn't been working since my first surgery and we were barely making the bill. It just wasn't a reality for me. I then found comfort in trying a soft hat. At first I was ok with it because it was better than nothing. I felt so bad for my kids cause I felt they were always being judged and asked questions that they weren't ready to answer.  I still feel empty and ugly. Even though my husband says I'm beautiful, I look into the mirror and see something else. I miss my long beautiful hair and it doesn't matter how much make up or what kind of hat I wear, I still have no hair around my face or over my neck. I feel naked in a way.  What is really starting to bother me even more is that my kids are starting back school and I don't want them to have a hard time because I look different than other mommies. I don't want my kids feelings to get hurt because I got sick. I just keep praying that God will light the way and everything will be ok.
God is good.  I am sooooo thankful to have come across Godiva's Secret Wigs.  I wrote them an email asking if their company does any donations for cancer patients.  They said YES and wanted to give me the wig of my choice, which was the Candice in Chocolate Swirl.   I fell in love with their wigs the moment I saw a video about the Candice wig. I was shocked how close it looked to real hair. I am blown away. I am sooo excited to have the opportunity to wear one and tell everyone about it. Godiva's Secret Wigs is a dream come true for me and I am so thankful. Thank you and God Bless."

I am so thrilled that we were able to donate a new wig to Tari, a beautiful woman from Africa with significant facial scarring. Two months ago, we were approached by Jennifer Trubenbach, the President of Operation of Hope,a volunteer surgical team that performs free facial reconstructive surgeries for babies. Tari had approached Jennifer to see if they might be able to do anything for her facial scarring. Unfortunately, an operation would only make her scar tissue worse, so Jennifer reached out to us to see if we might be able to donate a wig to her to help cover the scars. Tari lives in Zimbabwe, Africa and Jennifer would be able to deliver it herself. I was beyond excited to be able to help Tari and send her a perfect wig!! Today, I received this photo of Tari wearing her Alana Wig with Jennifer. She said that Tari was thrilled beyond words! It's moments like these that remind me why I am so passionate about Godiva's Secret Wigs! Tari is wearing the Alana Wig in Expresso; doesn't it look amazing!

Brylee came into our life when we were contacted by the Talbert Family Foundation; we found out that in October 2015, at the age of 4, she was diagnosed with Stage IV Rhabdomyosarcoma Cancer. After reading about her and seeing her photos, we were excited to donate a wig to Brylee. She came into our Woodland Hills store and had a blast with our employee, Lilie. Since then, our staff has followed Brylee's journey. She didn't let anything get her down or stop her from being upbeat, fun and loving. Unfortunately, Brylee passed away on September 1, 2016.  She was an absolute shining star and such an inspiration to us all!

A sweet woman named Sandy has alopecia which has caused her hair to greatly thin out. She found our Wigs on Wings program and wrote to us as her last hope in being able to get a wig. After reading her story, we were more than excited to offer her $250 toward the wig of her choice! Here is Sandy's emotional and uplifting story; it's a bit long, but very worth reading! And check Sandy out in her brand new Trixie Wig!

"I have alopecia that has gotten a lot worse since the first of this year. It is very depressing to look in the mirror and hate what is looking back at you and know there is nothing you can do to change it, knowing it is only going to get worse. I used to be an active person and loved to go out and do a lot of things. Now I stay home and do nothing because I feel ugly and ashamed. My hair loss has caused me to look a lot older than I am, which is heartbreaking. I am 51 years old and people think am in my late 60's. Am currently unemployed and searching for work. With my hair or lack of it I should say causing me to look older is making it very hard to find a good job. Employers think am older than I am and ask me why am not retiring when I tell them I am 51 they look shocked. I just want to run out of the room and cry.  To make matters even worse I have recently been diagnosed with a cystic pituitary micodenoma, which is going to cause me to lose even more of my hair. The doctors have told me that is one of the symptoms of this condition and is probably why my alopecia has gotten a lot worse this year.
I ran across your company while looking at wigs on youtube. I watched several of your videos on youtube and then decided to look at your website. I am very impressed at the quality of your wigs. I look at wigs a lot online wishing I could get a beautiful wig. Yours are by far the prettiest and most natural looking. While on your website I read the stories of other women and their battle with hairloss. It touched my heart and also made me sad that there are other women out there suffering like I do.  I decided to email you and was very surprised when I was offered one of your beautiful wigs. I was very excited the day it came and cried when I opened the box. It is so pretty and looks like real hair. I love it. I feel like I am normal again and can go out and face the world instead of hiding. I do not know how to thank you enough. Keep up the good work in helping all of us women with hair loss and making us feel beautiful. You are wonderful people. God Bless You."

Recently we received a FB message from a woman named Karen. After we read what she was going through, we decided to give her $250 toward the wig of her choice! Here is her message to us and her photos.

"I have alopecia areata. It started Sept 2014 and by Jan my hair was gone. It is very devastating to me; I felt embarrassed and ashamed to go anywhere. It has started to come back but now my eyebrows are gone again and I have about 5 spots on my head, one spot is 3x6 inches..I'm waiting on disability to come through , I have no money at this time..just wanting advice.."  The day Karen received her new Faye in Marble Brown wig:  "This is Karen, I got my wig today and omg I love it. It's what my natural hair looked like. I'm   so very happy with it.. thank you so much.. god bless you.."

A beautiful woman named Brooke was recently diagnosed with alopecia. A few of her friends recently saw our post on Facebook about donating a new wig to Denise and tagged Brooke in the post, knowing she could use some help herself. Brooke was courageous enough to message us and ask for any advise or help we might provide. After getting to know Brooke, we were more than excited to offer her $250 toward the wig of her choice! Here is Brooke's inspiring story.
"I was diagnosed with alopecia recently. I lost all my hair and eyebrows in a few days time. It was traumatic, to say the least. I went to doctor after doctor, did test after test, with seemingly no answer. All while I finished up my pre requisite classes to get into nursing school. I felt like my whole world was crashing around me! I was then diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. After working so hard to get into nursing school, my doctor refused to sign off on my release to go to school. I then saught advice from many people, and decided I will go to school whether I get the release or not. I may not be able to finish but at least I won't have the painful regret of never trying. I refuse to give up hope. Something happened that gave me an extra bit of hope. Godiva's Secret Wigs messaged me and said they would like me to pick out a wig, free of charge. They were able to give me back my dignity in one of the most stressful times of my life. I feel beautiful again. I am eternally greatful. If anyone is suffering from hair loss for one reason or another, please don't give up hope. Its not over until you say it is. You are stronger than you know. And you are still beautiful, despite how you may feel. There are also amazing men who will love you despite your illness! I have an incredible boyfriend who not only stuck by me, but shaved his head when I lost my hair. Hes proof that there are good ones out there! You are not alone and your life is not over. This is just one chapter to your story. I'm thankful to Godiva's Secret Wigs for doing what they could to help bring me hope, help me regain my dignity and for letting me share my story. I also thought I would add that this is the softest, most natural feeling wig I have ever seen! Their products are amazing quality and I will never go to another company. If you are considering buying a wig, look no further. Amazing products from a company who cares.. Can't beat that!"

A woman named Denise wrote an honest, emotional email to us, asking for our help in getting a wig. Here is her touching story, reaction to my email back, and beautiful photo in her new wig, Alexa Mono. It's a bit long, but well worth reading.
"I saw your website and I was overwhelmed. Both the quality of the wigs and the inspirational stories had me in tears because it's so familiar to me. I have a complicated medical background, mainly lupus, fibromyalgia and various psychiatric diagnoses. I have also always suffered from trichotillomania (hair pulling), but I had so much hair, it was never noticeable. Right now, my doctor believes there's a good chance that the lupus infiltrated my central nervous system and brain. I used to be anorexic. I don't say that with pride. I say it to illustrate that various medications and limitations on the exercise I can tolerate have caused me to gain so much weight that I cry when I look in the mirror. At this point, my hair comes out in clumps in the shower. About 1/3 of the hair from the crown of my head is gone. I've culled my pulling behavior and rarely indulge in it, but my hair isn't growing back. I live in a cage of shame between the weight gain and hair loss. I have seen some good quality wigs, but extreme financial constraints leave these things unattainable, which makes it worse. Knowing there's help that I just can't afford has even further ruined my self esteem. My fiancé, bless his heart, tries so hard. He recently bought me several costume wigs which I will wear under certain circumstances. But they are absurdly obvious as wigs. I'm falling deeper into this depression and I can't find a way out. I read about the refurbished wigs that you donate to cancer patients. I don't want to take from a cancer patient, I know that they suffer much more than I do. But if there is anything at all you can do for me, I would repay you in any way I can. I was supposed to be married, but as heavy as I am and with my hair as it is, I can't imagine planning a wedding. Please let me know if you can help. Thank you so much for all you do."
After I emailed her back letting her know we would give her up to $250 toward a wig, she replied:  "Oh my gosh, I'm so overwhelmed I'm crying. I'm going to look and show my fiancé when he gets home too. I honestly never expected anyone to be so wonderful. I haven't exactly had a lot of breaks. With your amazing kindness I can't imagine being any happier!"
Once she received her new wig, Alexa Mono, she wrote:  "I haven't allowed my picture to be taken in awhile. I'm just beside myself. You deserve every bit of good karma coming your way. It looks, feels and moves unbelievably. Too bad I can't dye it purple ;). I'm so excited. I am usually verbose and well spoken and at this time all I can say is thank you and may it come back to you 100 fold."

A woman named Pam reached out to us on Facebook.  She needed a wig because she has alopecia and it's very embarrassing to deal with.  She lost her hair due to blood pressure medicine and stress.  We let her know about Wigs on Wings and asked her what style she wanted.  Once we found a few that we thought might work great for her, we took photos of them and let her choose from 3 different wigs.  Here is the one she chose; doesn't she look great?!

"I just received my wig and yes I'm loving the style and look, thank you!"

I recently received an email from a coordinator at a Rescue Mission we work with. She said that one of their former guests, Karen, was going through chemo and in need of a wig. Karen was able to get an apartment of her own, but is in the midst of battling cancer while also taking care of her granddaughter. She asked if we might be able to donate a wig to her. After hearing about Karen and what an amazing woman she is, I said YES! Karen told us about her "perfect" wig style and color and we sent her a brand new Katie w/Roots in Sandalwood-H. Here she is, loving her new wig!!
