What a rooted wig color is and what styles come in it

A rooted color has a darker brown at the base, so the color at your part looks the way your own hair looks as it grows out. A color name ending in -R is a rooted color. Creamy Toffee-R is a chunky blend of honey blond and very light golden blond over dark brown roots. Champagne-R is a platinum blond with pale blond over that same dark base. Nutmeg-F is a strawberry blond with very light blond highlights and dark roots, so the suffix is not the only place rooting turns up.

Many of our wigs are shown as two different products, one in rooted colors and one in non-rooted. The cut and the length are the same either way.

You will see bobs, medium styles layered to the shoulder, long styles with feathered and gently flipped ends, and short cuts. Bangs are common, in wispy and side-swept versions.

Machine teased caps, lace fronts and monofilament tops all come in rooted colors, and rooted styles come in our petite, average and large caps.

How to tell whether a rooted wig color is right for you

A rooted color has a darker brown at the base, giving the appearance of regrowth, or roots. It is the shadow your own hair carries for the weeks after a color appointment. On a lighter shade it is what stops the color looking like it arrived all at once.

The color name will not tell you. Some of our rooted shades end in -R and some do not, so read what the shade says about itself. A rooted color tells you there is dark brown at the roots. The Pick a Wig guide explains how we use the term.

Many of our styles are sold as two products, one in rooted colors and one in non-rooted. The length and the weight are the same for both, so when you compare them you are choosing color and nothing else. The cut does not change.

If the shade you want is a very light grey or a white, a dark base can read as a mistake rather than as regrowth. There a solid color will look more like real hair on you.
