About Wig Brushes & Combs
Which brushes and combs can you use on a wig
Every brush and comb in this collection is chosen for high quality synthetic fiber, which needs a lighter hand than your own hair. Our Wire Brush and Purse Brush are for a straight or smooth style, brushed gently from the front hairline toward the back. If your wig is wavy or curly, do not brush it at all. Use your fingers or our Curly Comb to separate the curls instead, because a brush pulls the curl pattern apart and finger curling it back takes time. The Teasing Brush is for a machine teased crown, where you decide how much height you want that day. Our Rat Tail Comb gives you a clean part. The 1 inch Hot Air Brush is one of only two heated tools we have found to work on high quality synthetic hair, and it should be used with discretion. Blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons melt the fiber and leave it looking like frizz.
Which brush is safe to use on a wig
The brush on your dresser was chosen for your own hair, and the wrong one will take a style apart. Straight and smooth styles are the forgiving ones. Hold the wig upside down by the tag area, give it a few shakes, then comb gently from the front hairline to the back.
Wavy and curly styles work the other way. Brushing pulls the curl pattern apart, and separating it back out takes time you did not plan on. Use your fingers or our Curly Comb to lift the curls apart instead.
Heat is the other thing a brush can bring with it. Blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons melt high quality synthetic fiber, and the damage reads as frizz. Two items have worked for us, hot rollers and our 1 inch Hot Air Brush. Hold a hot roller in your hand first. If it is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for the wig. The rule and the exceptions are both on our Caring for Your Wig guide.
If everything you own is wavy or curly, you do not need a brush at all.
