About Lace Front Wigs
What styles come as lace front wigs?
A lace front is a sheer lace along the front edge, the piece that rests on your forehead, so the hairline reads as hair growing from your own scalp. The lace comes pre-cut, which makes these glueless and ready to wear.
The shortest shapes are feathered cuts with lightly textured bangs. You will also see chin-length bobs with gently curved ends, and shoulder-length hair with beachy waves or long side-swept bangs. The long styles have face-framing front pieces and softly feathered ends. Some come without bangs, so you can wear the front swept back and keep your face open.
Behind the lace the caps differ. Some have a machine teased crown, so you can wear the volume high or smooth it down with your hands. Others have a full or partial monofilament top, so the part shows what looks like your own scalp. Hand tied caps are here too, with each hair tied in one at a time for natural movement.
You can get a lace front on our petite, average and large caps, at short, medium and long lengths.
What a lace front wig actually fixes
A lace front is a sheer panel at the very front of the cap, the part that rests on your forehead. Hair is hand tied into that lace, so the front edge reads as a natural hairline rather than a hard line of fiber.
It settles the front and nothing else. Behind the lace, the crown may be machine teased or it may be monofilament, and those two look nothing alike at the part. Look for LF in the style name, which is how we mark a lace front, then read the rest of the name to see what the crown is.
Put on a wig you own and take a selfie from straight ahead, then one from slightly above. A camera is more honest than a mirror about where your eye goes first, and the front edge is usually not the thing you catch.
The Cap Construction guide shows the lace against the other caps.
If you wear your bangs forward and never see your own hairline, a lace front is doing work you will never look at.
