About Wig Caps
What does a wig cap do under a wig?
A wig cap is the thin layer that goes on first, before the wig. Our nylon and mesh caps hold your own hair flat and even underneath, which matters most when your hair is long or thick. They also keep the inside of the wig cleaner as you wear it. The cotton cap is the one to reach for when your head feels sensitive or a wig feels itchy, because all you feel against you is combed cotton. Our Wig Grip Cap puts a grip band together with a soft cotton cap. It stays put on a smooth scalp, and holds a hat, turban or scarf steady as well. Caps come in black, brown and blond, singly or in packs. Our wig liner is a different idea again. It is notched to sit inside a wig, a scarf or a hat. It wicks sweat away from your head, so you stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
Do you need to wear a wig cap under your wig?
Not always, and that answer comes straight from us. Many clients wear nothing underneath and the wig feels completely secure.
Here is how to tell which side of it you are on. If you have hair of your own, the cap's job is to hold that hair flat and out of the way. Tuck it in without a cap first and see how the wig sits. If your hair is long, a low bun at the nape works. If it is very long or very thick, two braids wrapped around your head and pinned will lie flat. If there is little hair underneath, a cap gives the wig something to hold onto.
Ours come in mesh, nylon and cotton, singly or by the dozen, and the wig liners come in a pack of ten. Caring for Your Wig has the rest of the tucking instructions.
If your own hair already lies flat and your wig does not move on you, you do not need a cap. Adding one will not make the wig look more natural.
